So, for starters, writing this year’s paper on last year’s experiences turned out to be a wonderful blessing in disguise. I mean, to be able to take it and turn it around and use it this way has been amazing. Plus the peers in class loved it too, and we’ve had discussions about the topic in general since then. It was cool, cause I got to hear from them about other similar experiences.
Just a few pointers - So I don’t have to publicize the paper:
Rachel Simmons is the wonderful author of Odd Girl out, which was made into a tv-movie, and the sequel Odd Girl Speaks Out. I recommend you take the time to pick these books up. Or if you are lazy, at least watch the movie. xP
It really really really goes into great detail of the stereotypical queen-bee, mean chicks, girl clique bullies and the aspects of the group and their targets. What occurs on the inside and how it affects people psychologically.
I had so much to learn on this being that I never had the experience during that age group. I knew it existed, as most do, but I wasn’t real aware of most of it. So coming from it now, I was able to really see a lot of interesting aspects of it. From where the jealousy occurs, to the aggression, to the hazing and taunting. Being able to place names to each was fascinating as well. I was constantly amazed at how everything fit.
Plus, there was like a list of things I wish I had known before last year xD

- …..Cyber-bullies may publish personal contact information for their victims at websites. They may attempt to assume the identity of a victim for the purpose of publishing material in their name that defames or ridicules them…..
I mean, THEY WRITE BOOKS ON THIS STUFF XDD how classic is that for you.
One term I loved - “Hanger-ons” you know, those sheep that follow along with what the “in” group is doing going “baa-baa”
Yet, the research didn’t end there. I was witness to another incident not long after that involved boys taunting and hazing. Now typically you see females in this role because girls are more emotionally driven, and guys tend to be physical in their approach to aggression. But when a few of us broke down the situation, some interesting things came from it.
- one being that it occurred online. The boys could not express their aggression physically
- The boy had been “the odd one out” prior to the incident. And therefore used his way back “in” by hazing another. Creating another victim, and removing himself from that position.
- So what exactly does that say about how our society works then?

Two bits of good news for fans of America’s Team. First, Hitler gets to wear that TO jersey with pride because the NFL’s most egotistical WR is staying in Dallas.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones plans to pay Terrell Owens’ $3 million roster bonus, which means the All-Pro wide receiver will be back for the final season of his three-year, $25 million contract.
“Yes, we are going to have Terrell back,” Jones said Tuesday at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
Jones added that a contract extension for Owens is something he would consider “down the line.”
Owens finished with 81 catches for 1,355 yards and a team-record 15 touchdown receptions.
Sorry Cowboy haters. TO seems to have grown up.

Dallas Cowboys star Tony Romo has reportedly dumped Jessica Simpson, who was widely blamed for costing him a shot at the Super Bowl.
“Tony is now starting to blame her himself,” a pal told OK! magazine. “Before dating Jessica, he was Texas’ golden boy. Now he’s become a joke.”
A few days after the Giants bounced the Cowboys from the playoffs, Romo called the “Dukes of Hazzard” star to tell her their romance was over.
“He said he thought it was better if they went back to being friends,” a pal of hers said.
Why couldn’t they have had this discussion before the Giants debacle?

Kuala Lumpur : More than 300 pangolins waiting to be smuggled to Thailand were seized by the Malaysian police from a mango orchard in northern Perlis state, media reports said Thursday.
A total of 248 adult and 58 young pangolins - worth $20,588 (70,000 ringgit) - were seized by a team of anti-smuggling unit (UPP) of the Malaysian police in Padang Besar, a border town. The pangolins are anteaters. Some people kill them for their meat.
The pangolins were brought from Kulim in northern Kedah state and headed for Thailand.
After a tip-off, the police team led by Ku Yaacob Ku Hamad raided the mango orchard that was being used as a transit point to smuggle the pangolins, an official said.
The pangolins were wrapped in cloths and stacked inside large plastic baskets.
"The team searched the area for several hours but no one was around," New Straits Times quoted Ku Yaacob as saying.
This was the second biggest seizure of pangolins in the state this year, he said. In September, the police seized 330 pangolins, worth $382,353.
"Smugglers have changed their tactics. Now they store these animals in secondary forests or orchards to evade detection," Ku Yaacob said.
Solar Cycle 24
Solar Cycle 24 has been the subject of much speculation due to competing forecasts on whether it will be an highly active or a quiet low cycle. If it is a low cycle, it may very well be a test of validity for some CO2 based AGW theories. Only time will tell. A magnetically reversed, high-latitude sunspot, dubbed as number 981, emerged on the surface of the sun today. Just a few months ago, an “All Quiet Alert” had been issued for the sun. This reversed polarity sunspot today marks the beginning of Solar Cycle 24 and the sun’s return back to Solar Maximum.
The first sunspot region with Solar Cycle 24 polarity was numbered by the Space Weather Prediction Center on January 4 at 2000 UTC (3:00 P.M. EST). The sunspot region was officially numbered as 10981
.
This does not mean the new cycle has officially started; however, this is a clear sign Solar Cycle 24 is within sight. Sunspots are tracked because they indicate the level of space weather activity we expect. Solar activity is forecast to reach a peak in 2011 or 2012.
