There's great joy throughout the region this weekend that the relentlessly negative campaign battle between Democrat Bill Foster and Republican Jim Oberweis for the West suburban 14th U.S. Congressional seat is finally over.
No more unavoidable TV and radio ads about what despicable, craven, thoughtless human beings both men are and what an enabling dupe you'd have to be to vote for either one.
Of course when I say "over" I mean only for a brief interval. Temper your joy, folks, even if you were rooting for the victorious Foster, whose upset victory reinforced dairy magnate Oberweis' political nickname "The Milk Dud."
Today's special election will create just a slight pause before these same two candidates begin sliming it out again for the November election when they'll square off again.
